Frequently asked questions

Is this actually secure?

Yes. It uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), the same cryptographically secure randomness source browsers use for security-sensitive operations — not Math.random().

Are the passwords stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs in memory in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, saved, or logged — closing the tab discards it.

How long should my password be?

For most accounts, 16+ characters mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols is a good baseline. Longer is generally stronger.

Doing this by hand every week? That's exactly what I remove.

If this conversion is one small step in a bigger workflow — say, files arriving by email, getting converted, renamed and filed by a person every time — I build software that does the whole thing automatically. My clients get back up to 18 hours a week this way.
